We start today with a little article I found interesting from the NY Times about the lives of airline pilots when they are just starting out. Most pilots would read this article and get a good chuckle because it is very true. I will always remember those days on the bottom of the list at a regional airline. It was easier for me because I was young while I was going through this stage. I can empathize with the two pilots listed in the article because their current experiences are exactly the kind of things I dealt with. I would have a full day of flying scheduled without so much as a lunch break. A majority of pilots would never work for a regional by choice. The fortunate thing for regional airlines is that big fat carrot (major airline job) that pilots are always chasing.

The small piece about the smaller airlines lowering their hiring requirements is very true. When I was originally hired I had to have 3 times the experience of the new hires they were hiring before I moved onto the majors. I was responsible for training many of the new pilots we would hire and you could definitely tell that they had less experience.
